The Second Hundred Years The year 1981 marks the one-hundredth Anniversary of Union Special Corporation. As the company embarks on its second century of progress, THE NEEDLE'S EYE® is pleased to present this concluding part of the History of Union Special Corporation. During it's first one hundred years. Union, grew from its beginnings as a small manufacturer of bag making machines to its present position as a leading international supplier of industrial sewing equipment. Celebrating its centennial anniversary this year/the company now looks ahead to the future — a future in "which a century of experience and know-how can be used to meet the ever changing needs of the worldwide needle trades industry. Union Special Corporation was a leader in the introduction of specialized sewing machines and better methods of apparel production. As the industry faces the challenges of the future, the company's pioneering spirit will be instrumental in the development of new and improved sewing equipment and technology.
Automation will remain the key to the apparel industry's success as manufacturers strive for higher productivity and reduced labor costs. Several new automated systems units unveiled at the 1981 Bobbin Show by Union Special Corporation reflect the company's progress in this direction. Additions in the family of MEMORY STITCHER® Sewing Systems will include Style 2800 T-4M and Style 2800 T-5M. Advanced electronic technology and features such as increased sewing area and stitch count will make possible the performance of a greater variety of decorative, functional and constructional sewing operations. The new Contour Seamer, Style 2800 CS-1, was introduced for automatically sewing in and out seams on men's, ladies', and children's slacks. The latest version of the automatic Bottom Hemmer, Style 2800 BH-2, was presented for hemming the bottom of side seamed knit T-shirts and sportshirts in the round. |
In addition to more sophisticated and advanced automated systems equipment, the future will see important changes in conventional sewing machines. Machines of the future will be designed with the operator's comfort and safety in mind. Union Special Corporation is already at work developing methods to minimize noise levels and produce sewing machines that are smoother running and easier to operate. Work stations will also be redesigned to reduce unnecessary movements and allow operators to maintain healthy posture. These changes will enable the operator to improve concentration and performance. An international supplier from the very beginning, Union Special Corporation will increase worldwide marketing efforts during its second century. The company will expand service in developing areas, as well as improve sales service and technical support to existing markets throughout the world. The company's commitment of meeting the industry's needs for the "Finest Quality" sewing equipment will be a total sales and service commitment supported by skilled, knowledgeable representatives and distributors, training facilities; and technical back-up.
Union Special Corporation looks back at its
first century with pride — pride in the "Special People" who built the
"Finest Quality" sewing machines, pride in the progress and achievements
made during the past 100 years, and pride in the worldwide needle trades
industry it has served. |
