DON’T COME UNRAVELED!

New two- and three-needle cylinder bed hemmers with stitch condensing are now available from Union Special. Stitch condensing prevents possible unraveling of the stitched hem on the finished garment. Near the end of the seam, the machine feed adjusts itself to effectively shorten the stitch to the point that it cannot become undone.

Currently the electro-pneumatic SC1 stitch condensing device is offered on MFC7406 and MFC7407 (CS122, 2 and 3 needle) basic hemmers, hemmers with left hand fabric undertrimmers, and universal machine styles (H01, H21 and U06 subclasses.) However, any MFC machine without a puller can be ordered with the stitch condensing option by including the designation “SC1” after the needle gauge and before any attachments, for example: MFC7407A-H32-B64SC1UT4. Please note that for proper functioning of the stitch condensing mechanism, the motor must have the capability to double backtack.

In addition, stitch condensing can be mounted to existing MFC or CS machines without pullers. Kits set up at this time are:

  • 29480SC1H01 to fit H01 subclass

  • 29480SC1H21 to fit H21 subclass

  • 29480SC1U06 to fit U06 subclass

Stitch condensing kits fit on two- and three-needle styles, with or without top cover thread.
