1. Remove the pulley and stop motion cover and thoroughly clean this area, Figure 6. Also inspect the belt, stop motion plunger, stop motion disc and stop motion disc lever for shake, binds or wear and repair or replace as necessary.

  2. Remove the arm cover plate and thoroughly clean this area, Figure 7. Also inspect the gears, plunger raising cam and stitch tacking cam for shake, binds or wear and repair or replace as necessary.

  3. Remove the belt, loosen the sub-base locking latch adjusting screw and tilt the machine head on its left side.  Thoroughly clean this area of contaminants and check for shake, binds and wear, Figure 8. Before placing the head upright, it is advisable to place a couple drops of oil on each of the moving parts and also on the bushings.

  4. After the machine has been thoroughly cleaned and the components checked, refer to the oiling diagram on page 13 of Catalog 194-10, Figure 9, and place a couple drops of oil (Union Special part number 28604R) at each of the areas indicated. These areas may also be marked with a red dot on the machine. Because this is a manually oiled machine it is recommended to oil these areas twice daily while in use.

Also note that there is a label on the pulley which reads "Grease Here." Periodically the plug screw in the pulley should be removed and the grease level
checked. Grease the pulley by putting grease (Union Special part number 28604P) at letter "A" as indicated on oiling diagram.
