1. Remove the rear plug and clean this area thoroughly of lint or debris, Figure 8.

    Note: Because this plug is more easily removed it can be checked and cleaned more often.
     

  2. Using compressed air blow out the cooling ribs on the bottom cover, Figure 9, and the fan blade of the
    hand wheel, Figure 10.
     

  3. Remove the head cover from the machine and clean any lint or contaminants from this area, Figure 11 Check the gasket for tears, cracks or dry rot and replace if necessary. Then replace the head cover.
     

  4. Wipe clean all thread contact surfaces and inspect for worn parts, nicks or burrs and repair or replace if necessary, Figure 12.
     

  5. Carefully inspect the looper and sewing combination for worn or broken parts and repair or replace as necessary.
     

  6. To fill the machine with oil remove the oil plug on top of the machine and fill so that the oil is at the top line on the oil gauge, Figure 13.

    Whenever oil is changed it is important to use Union Special Corp. Spec. 175 oil having the following
    characteristics:

  1. Once the machine has been properly filled with oil it is advisable to run the machine slowly for a few minutes to let the oil flow to the critical areas. Also note that while the machine is operating the oil must show bubbles in the clear window under the arm, Figure 14. NE
