Check for left to right shake in the
spreader rocker shaft and remove any excess movement,
Figure 7. Check for up and down
shake in the spreader holder shaft and spreader holder and remove any
excess movement.
Check the various thread contact surfaces,
such as eyelets, needles, looper, spreader and take-up, for nicks, burrs
or worn parts and replace as necessary, Figure
8. Also make sure that all of these areas are cleaned
thoroughly.
After the above maintenance has been
performed, replace the oil reservoir back cover and check the location
of the oil drip plate as outlined in Catalog 133M,
Figure 9. Then, replace the plug screw and all of the
covers except for the lower crank chamber cover.
To fill the machine with the proper amount of oil and set the gauge
properly, the following steps should be taken:
-
Place machine head on a level surface.
-
Fill machine reservoir,
Figure 10, until oil is even with
the bottom of the knee press shaft bushing (brass rod),
Figure 11.
-
Loosen the locknut and rotate calibrating
screw as required until the gauge needle registers on the black line
marked "low", Figure 12.
-
Tighten the locknut, and replace the lower
crank chamber cover.
-
Fill the machine with oil until the gauge
needle registers on the black line marked "full",
Figure 13.
Once the machine has been properly filled
with oil it is advisable to run the machine slowly for a few minutes to
let the oil flow to the critical areas. Also, if the needle bar has been
wiped dry it is advisable to put a few drops of oil on it prior to
running the machine. NE
