1. Check for left to right shake in the spreader rocker shaft and remove any excess movement, Figure 7. Check for up and down shake in the spreader holder shaft and spreader holder and remove any excess movement.
     

  2. Check the various thread contact surfaces, such as eyelets, needles, looper, spreader and take-up, for nicks, burrs or worn parts and replace as necessary, Figure 8. Also make sure that all of these areas are cleaned thoroughly.
     

  3. After the above maintenance has been performed, replace the oil reservoir back cover and check the location of the oil drip plate as outlined in Catalog 133M, Figure 9. Then, replace the plug screw and all of the covers except for the lower crank chamber cover.
     

  4. To fill the machine with the proper amount of oil and set the gauge properly, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Place machine head on a level surface.
     

  2. Fill machine reservoir, Figure 10, until oil is even with the bottom of the knee press shaft bushing (brass rod), Figure 11.
     

  3. Loosen the locknut and rotate calibrating screw as required until the gauge needle registers on the black line marked "low", Figure 12.
     

  4. Tighten the locknut, and replace the lower crank chamber cover.
     

  5. Fill the machine with oil until the gauge needle registers on the black line marked "full", Figure 13.

  1. Once the machine has been properly filled with oil it is advisable to run the machine slowly for a few minutes to let the oil flow to the critical areas. Also, if the needle bar has been wiped dry it is advisable to put a few drops of oil on it prior to running the machine. NE
