Basic Preventative Maintenance For Class 62200 Machines
Union Special Corporation's
Class 62200 two-needle, needle-feed lockstitch machines are among the most
widely used machines for heavy duty sewing operations requiring special
feeding. They are unsurpassed for handling varying thicknesses of the
heaviest weights of materials and for producing perfect ply matching on
otherwise hard-to-feed fabrics.
Class 62200 machines have been
designed to provide many years of reliable sewing. In order to
achieve this level of trouble-free operation, regularly scheduled, routine
maintenance is required.
When replacing machine oil it
is important to use oil that meets Union Special Corporation Specification
175. The following information covers the steps to be followed when
performing preventive maintenance on Class 62200 machines.
-
Oil should be drained and
replaced once every six months. To drain the oil, remove the plug screw
located below the handwheel on the right side of the machine. It will be
necessary to tilt this machine to completely drain the oil,
Figure 1.
-
Once every 12 months, or every
other time the oil is changed, the bottom cover must be removed for
additional inspection and cleaning. The inside of the oil reservoir
chamber must be wiped clean being sure to remove any particles that may
have accumulated. At this time the fiber gear should also be checked for
chipped or broken teeth, Figure 2.
-
Check to make sure there is no
left to right shake or movement of the feed driving shaft. This can be
checked by grasping the shaft and manually attempting to move it from
right to left, Figure 3. Any
movement should be eliminated by loosening the screws in the two shaft
collars and moving them together until all side-to-side shaft
movement has been eliminated, Figure 4.
