Joining & Taping The Joining and Taping Seam is not really defined by the ASTM booklet D6193, but it can be defined as the butting together of two or more plies of material, and then sewing a folded tape over the top.The operation required to sew the Joining & Taping Seam (performed on styles 36200UX52 and 36200UX60) is similar to that of the Butt Seam, except that instead of a top coverstitch covering the top of the material, there is a folded tape that is sewn down with a 4–needle 5–thread bottom coverstitch type 408 over the butted seam. The final result is a 408LSz-1 (modified) stitch and seam type, Figure 11. This type of operation was designed mainly for men’s, women’s and children’s briefs, but could also be used for any type of operation where a tape needs to be attached and sewn. |
